Q. What is considered to be a reasonable daily travelling distance?

A. A reasonable daily travelling distance is defined as:

  • a return daily journey taking less than 2 hours;or
  • a distance of under 15 miles from the college to the student’s home or
  • a journey that requires only one change on public transport.

Q. To qualify for Residential Support via the national system students must be studying for Level 3 courses or above or a course with Level 2 content for a FE qualification meeting a specific job requirement. As a Residential Specialist College which follows the national system do I have to follow this system?

A. Yes. The 8 pilot colleges must follow the same criteria as the national system. The only exception would be continuing students who are already on the course.
